ASFS: Academy of Spirits & Fine Service MasterClass

This 8-Week MasterClass will take a deep dive into the world of spirits. We will uncover all the aspects of spirits making and understand how they play a role in what is in the glass. Over 50 different spirits and liqueurs will be tasted in class, and we will discuss the proper ways to serve and pair them with food. You will walk away with insights that can be applied at your venue.

  • Pre-Requisite: Must have taken the Spirits 101 or have 1 year bartending experience
  • Required Text: The Beverage Engineer, Seventh Edition, By Livio Lauro & Armando Rosario

Course Syllabus

 

Session 1: The foundational history of alcoholic beverages, ingredients, production, distribution. Service and Food Pairing of Vodka, Soju, Shochu, Awamori.

 

Sessions 2 through 7 will cover the history, manufacturing, ingredients, service food pairing and tasting of the following:

 

Session 2: Gin, Genever, Old Tom, Aquavit

 

Session 3: Rum, Cachaça and Other Sugar Cane-based Spirits of the World

 

Session 4: Tequila, Mezcal and Other Mexican Spirits

 

Session 5: Whiskies of the world

 

Session 6: Wine & Fruit-based Brandies of the World

 

Session 7: Liqueurs, Cordials, Vermouth, Aperitifs, Amari

 

Session 8: Written Exam, Candidates Spirits Presentations
